College Development Council

Introduction
The College Development Council (CDC) was established in the year 2008 in accordance with OB 4, Section 29(1)(m) of the Nagaland University Act, 1989. The College Development Council (CDC) is a statutory body of Nagaland University, constituted in accordance with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC). It serves as the primary coordinating agency between the University and its affiliated colleges. At present, Nagaland University has 76 affiliated colleges (2025) spread across the state. The CDC plays a central role in facilitating academic development, institutional planning, and quality
assurance in these colleges, ensuring alignment with both UGC norms and university standards.

Aims
The CDC aims to promote the coordinated and integrated development of higher education in affiliated colleges. It supports the advancement of teaching and research and encourages institutions to serve as vibrant centres of knowledge, innovation, and social relevance. It also acts as a central advisory body to implement the academic vision and strategic goals of Nagaland University.

Objectives
The core objectives of the CDC include managing the affiliation process, supporting colleges in accessing financial grants, and guiding them in launching new and relevant academic programs. It also works to implement national-level reforms such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, promoting multidisciplinary learning, vocational education, and institutional autonomy across colleges.

Functions
The CDC performs a wide range of functions that are crucial to maintaining academic standards and institutional governance. These include evaluating proposals for affiliation and academic expansion, conducting inspections, reviewing college infrastructure and faculty, and maintaining affiliation records.
