Schematic Description of Research Under CRL

Cancer Incidences in India

Objectives of CRL
- This laboratory will give detailed insight into the growth and spread of cancer cells which is essential for developing future tests and drugs.
- Will facilitate initial identification of drugs that have anticancer therapeutic potential using in vitro methods.
- The potency of the anti-cancer agents will be further confirmed on approved animal models by in vivo methods.
- Selected chemical compounds will be exposed on specific genes and/or cell-lines under different conditions and doses to explore their possible potential as cancer drugs.
- The traditional medicinal plants will be tested on cancer cells to understand their therapeutic potential.
Thrust Areas of Research
- Cancer Epidemiology in Nagaland Pharmacokinetic study of newly synthesized drugs
- Drug delivery study on different types of cancer cells
- Cancer Drug development for cancer with the use of traditional medicines practiced in Nagaland
- Development of biomarkers for early detection of Cancer.
Common Cancer Incidence in Nagaland
- Oesophagal cancer is very high
- Colorectal cancer is also very high
- Lung cancer is also very high
- Mortality rate due to Cancer is very high in Nagaland.
