KVK Zunheboto conducts World Soil Day

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Zunheboto, Nagaland University observed World Soil Health  Day at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaland University, Lumami on 5th December 2017. Prof. P. Lal, Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University was the Chief Guest of the programme. In the inaugural session welcome address was delivered by Ms. Narola Anichari, Programme Assistant, Home science. Lecture on importance of Soil health in Agriculture was given Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Sr. Scientist and Head, where he emphasized on ways to maintain soil fertility and importance of soil health Card. Mr. Ghukhevi, progressive farmer, from Aotsakilimi village shared his experience of working with KVK and benefits he got after testing his soil. Prof. John Sema, Department of Political Science also exhorted the farmers on the importance of soil health and requested them to go for organic farming and also not to wait for government subsidies.
Vice Chancellor Nagaland University in his speech emphasised on the importance of maintaining the soil health through organic farming and preserve the soil microbes as most of the microbial activities are beneficial for healthy growth of crops. He briefed the farmers on how organic fertilizers can help them to improve productivity of crops and urged the farmers to take the benefits of soil health card which will help them choose suitable crops. Prof. A.K. Singh, Department of Political Science along with other dignitaries distributed the soil Health Card to the 60 farmers from 7 different villages. Dr. Visakho Shunyu SMS (Agronomy, Plant Breeding and Genetics) delivered the vote of thanks.  Altogether 750 numbers of Soil Health Cards were distributed to the farmers on the day. 
In the second session Farmers Scientist Interaction was conducted and screening of Soil Health Card mobile application was done to make the farmers aware of mobile APP launched by Union Minister of Agriculture Shri Radha Mohan Singh.
